THE UNFIXED LENS
An opportunity to notice the lens through which we see.
East End of Long Island · Summer 2027
THE WORK
The way we experience the world is never entirely separate from the conditions through which we have learned to see it.
Place, history, culture, relationships, experience, and inherited systems become part of the lens—often without our awareness of the lens itself.
The Unfixed Lens began as an inquiry into the space between what is present and what we perceive.
Living outside the conventional rhythms of daily life was not initially a choice, but often a necessity.
Through that experience came an unexpected recognition: moments of peace, connection, and presence could exist outside the schedules, expectations, and measures of success we are taught to organize our lives around.
The Unfixed Lens grew in part from that recognition—a desire to create a brief space within everyday life where those rhythms can fall away, without replacing them with another set of expectations.
PLACE
The first iteration of The Unfixed Lens is being developed for the East End of Long Island—a place shaped by water, work, leisure, movement, and generations of people living alongside one another.
The place is part of the work, but it is not the subject of it.
The broader inquiry is human: how a lens is formed, what it brings into focus, what remains at the edges, and how it shapes the way we see ourselves, one another, and the world around us.
THE INQUIRY
What captures our attention often shapes our experience.
What quietly fades may connect us more than we realize.
And what remains most difficult to see is the lens itself.
